Hello and welcome to beautiful KyleSaric.com/blog

JenniferSaric.com under construction!

I’ve decided to purchased jennifersaric.com to secure the name of my mum, Jennifer Saric, as a domain. There are several reasons for this; mainly so she can have a professional hub for all information about her. I’ve decided to create an under construction page until I have time to work on the site. I didn’t want to go with the whole 90’s construction site style but rather have a clean and simple yet professional look. This was achieved by creating a logo that features two fonts; one for general writing and one for her name. The overall result, a page with some added links and copyright/design information, can be seen below.

Project Site

I have decided to go for the grey/white/red design since I think it’s a very stylish and modern look whilst maintaining a very professional look.

Once I have time to fully develop the site I will post an update on how I’ve created the final results!

flickr pro account totally worth it!

25$ for a years worth of flickr pro goodness… is it really worth it? I have used flickr for random photo hosting for a couple of years now and just recently hit the 200 photo limit of a regular user. I started thinking about upgrading to a pro account around that time, which was also the same time I started using iPhoto ‘09 which has flickr uploading support built in. It never worked for me however as I had reached the maximum limit of sets for free users (3 sets) and you must upload each iPhoto album to a new set. I final went for it and upgraded.

What the pro account got me:

  • Unlimited uploads and storage.
  • Unlimited sets and collections.
  • Access to your original files.
  • Stats on your account.
  • Ad-free browsing and sharing.
  • HD playback for high-definition video uploads.

The main feature I love is just being able to upload full resolution sets of my iPhoto library. In the past week I’ve uploaded roughly 2000 photos, most of my ‘nice’ photos in my iPhoto library. Stats are also a fantastic feature. Being able to see photo specific stats on top of regular stats is just amazing!

Overall I just think it’s a really great way to share your photos with others and having unlimited sets, uploads and access to your full resolution versions is fantastic!

Nearly 6 months with my unibody MacBook…

… and I still love it as much as I did on day 1. Time flies by, and the past half year passed by quicker than ever! I feel as though I’ve been using Macs forever now. They are so much more user friendly than windows machine! And the software is outstanding, there’s beautiful applications for just about everything you need (see my list below).

My current mac desktop

I’m happy to now be a Mac user, and probably will stay like this for a long time to come :)

Mixtapes using Opentape

I’ve just been playing around with Opentape, an “open-source package that lets you make and host your own mixtapes on the web.” and I gota say, it’s pretty awesome :)

My mixtapes will be posted and hosted here, and hopefully about once per month I’ll change things round and post my recently listened to songs and generally just things I’m into currently.

Project365 up again :)

Thanks to Adam Machin. He suggested to have a look at Google’s cache of /365/ and it had found a copy of it. It wasn’t the final one, but at least all the layout of divs and the edited Flickr code was recovered :)

Will be uploading other images soon.

Project365 down :(

I use 2 main pieces of software when working on my website currently, Transmit and Coda. I had a tiny bit of a problem with Coda and it had deleted my /365/index.html file (hence why when currently viewing the page is just white. I didn’t save any backups either :(

I’ll re-write the page in the comming days. I’ll still continue with project365 but will post them in batch when I get all the code organised. From now on, I’ll always back my root directory of my server on a local drive, just incase something like this happens again.

KyleSaric.com/365

I’ve been working on the design for my Project365 page recently. My idea started when I watched the last episode of Epic Fu for 2008 and they had talked about people taking pictures every day for a year. I wanted to create something similar. My design for the web page was inspired by the clean colour scheme of Last.fm with a modern and simple feel for the layout. For the logo I went for a 720×200 pixel size. I quite like that as a banner size since it fits very nicely on most screen resolutions. I’d like to point out that for the brush effect on the edges of the logo I used the Paintey Brushes which are very nice and detailed. For the Flickr badge I went straight ahead to the Flickr Badge creator where I chose an HTML badge, pictures only from my Project365 set. I then chose not to have a buddy icon or screen name, 3 most recent images mid-sized in a horizontal orientation with no background or boarder colour. Once I got the HTML code I did quite a bit of editing. The CSS part of the code I completely redid and transfered it over to my style.css file:

#flickr_badge {
width:720px;
}

#flickr_badge img {
height: auto;
width: 236px;
border: 1px solid #000;
background: #ccc;
padding: 1px;
}

For the badge itself I wanted it the same width as my other content. For the img part I split the width (720px) into 3 parts (since I wanted 3 images to be displayed horizontally). This left me with 236px for the actual image with a 1px padding and 1px black boarder (in the screen shot below I have a full 720px width image but I have changed from this since the Flickr photos looked very blurry when stretched that big). Once all the Flickr images have been implemented I finalised the site and puplished it.

Hello World (again)

This is my true first post. And it’s also the first of January. I watched the last Epic Fu of the year and decided to start Project 365. And why not start my blog at the same time! I’ll be posting random thoughts, reviews, previews of any kind of media, games and will also be posting my photo of the day here. Stick along for a wonderful 2009!

Happy new year!
